About Us

Family Farm and Animal Rescue

Denmark Animal Farm and Pentland Alpaca Stud is a family owned and operated business that was started in 1990 by Marg & Laurie Binks and their daughter & son-in-law Debbie & Stephen Maddams. Marg and Laurie have retired and Steve & Debbie are now running the farm alongside their son and his partner.

We brought the first alpacas to Western Australia and currently have close to 60. Visitors can enter paddocks and feed the alpacas, alongside a variety of other animals. Alpacas breed all year round, so there are nearly always baby alpaca, known as cria. All shearing is done on farm and the raw fleeces are available to purchase in our shop alongside other finished alpaca products. We are also involved in alpaca shows - look out for the "Pentland" name at Agricultural Shows. We also sell alpacas as sheep guards and pets.

In 1999 we added koalas to our menagerie. Koalas enjoy the mild Denmark climate and the 3000 trees we planted just for them! Unfortunately at this time we no longer have any koalas, but we hope to have some again in the near future.

Each year we hand rear orphaned Western Grey kangaroos that are brought to us. These get bottle fed at 3pm along with our other farm babies, which can include calves, lambs, goats and piglets. The bottle-fed joeys are very quiet and enjoy cuddles. Depending on their age, they are either tucked up in a blanket in our shop or in the backyard behind the shop. The adult kangaroos are all out in the paddock, and are very friendly and can be hand-fed. As well as orphaned joeys, we also take in rescued farm animals.
